The Goalkeeper

The Coaching Ground

Most coaching still treats the goalkeeper as the last line of defence — deep, reactive, judged on saves. The numbers say otherwise: most of the position is played with the ball at the feet, and shot-stopping is a fraction of it.

These three pieces build the proactive keeper from the ground up — what the position is actually for, who should play it, and when to stop rotating and commit. Start with the first; the other two follow from it.
